It is really important
to keep your files (and folders) organized
so that you can easily locate them and to prevent yourself
and others
from accidentally saving over your files.
Naming Files
All files should be saved using a
unique name. Unique means that no other file should have the same name. When
you save with the same file name in the same folder, the original version of
the file will be deleted. Prevent yourself from accidentally deleting files!
We will always use the
following file naming system:
one or two word assignment descriptor_your name.file extension
For example: poem1_steveg.doc

Where do you
Save?
It is a good idea to save all files in the Documents folder
(My Documents folder on Windows).
We will take that a step further and create personal folders within the Documents
folder.
Creating Folders
Method 1: Open the Documents folder.
Right-click (control-click) and choose New Folder. Name the folder.
Method 2: File > New Folder.

Naming the Personal Folder
For our personal folder, we will name it as follows: lastname_firstname

Saving Files
To place your files in the correct place when saving, be sure to designate the
folder on the Save as... menu.

Most Importantly...SAVE YOUR WORK OFTEN!
Don't wait until you're finished. Save every few minutes.
