Fast
Food Frenzy
Return
to Computer Studies Home Page.
You will be “eating” 3 days worth of fast food. You must eat a
minimum of 2 meals per day. You must eat at more than one restaurant. A meal
must include a minimum of 1 large menu item (i.e. burger, burrito, sub). You
may include side items and drinks if you choose, but they are not required.
Try to choose what you would really eat. Enjoy!
- You will research nutrition facts for several popular fast
food restaurants.
- You will record the data in a spreadsheet for 3 days of
fast food meals.
- You will then create a PowerPoint presentation summarizing
and analyzing the information.
1) Web Research: Use the following websites
to gather information. You will need to navigate the site to find the nutrition
section.
(Keyword search if needed)
a. Subway - http://www.subway.com/subwayroot/index.aspx
b. Burger King – http://www.bk.com/index.aspx
c. Taco Bell – http://www.tacobell.com/
d. McDonald’s – http://www.mcdonalds.com/usa.html
e. Popeye’s - http://www.popeyes.com/index.asp
2) Data Collection: Use Excel to collect
and organize your data. Set up your spreadsheet first following these guidelines,
then complete the table with the data you collect from the above websites:
Save as…File Name: “fastfood + your name.xls”
A. Use the following column headings:
- i. Food Name [Describe with name of restaurant & specific item
name.]
- ii. Serving Size (g) [Research and record amount for each item.]
- iii. Calories [Research and record amount for each item.]
- iv. Total Fat (g) [Research and record amount for each item.]
- v. Cholesterol (mg) [Research and record amount for each item.]
- vi. Protein (g) [Research and record amount for each item.]
- vii. # of Servings [Decide how many servings of each item you will
“eat.”]
- viii. Calories I Ate [Create a function to multiply Calories
* # of Servings.]
- ix. Total Fat I Ate [Create a function to multiply Total Fat
* # of Servings.]
- x. Cholesterol I Ate [Create a function to multiply Cholesterol
* # Servings.]
- xi. Protein I Ate [Create a function to multiply Protein *
# of Servings.]
B. Underneath the Food Names, label a row for each of the following::
- i. Total [Create a function to calculate the total of each “I
Ate…” column.]
- ii. USDA Recommended (1 day) Use the following amounts for 1 day USDA
Recommended amounts for each category:
1. Calories I Ate: 2000
2. Total Fat I Ate: 65 g
3. Cholesterol I Ate: 300 mg
4. Protein I Ate: leave blank
- iii. USDA Recommended (3 day) [Create a function to calculate the
USDA 3 day recommended amounts based on the 1 day * 3]
- iv. Amount Over [Create a function the subtracts Total –
USDA 3 day Recommended]
3) Create a Presentation: Use PowerPoint to present
a data summary (menu) using hyperlinked slides. Set up your presentation using
the following guidelines:
Save as…File Name: “fastfood + your name.ppt”
A. Create a title slide, including:
- i. Title
- ii. Your Full Name
- iii. A related image
- iv. A description of the project.
- What did you do in the project?
- What do your menu items represent?
- What can you conclude about fast food? Relate
your conclusion to the "Amount Over."
B. Create a menu, including:
- i. Title (May I suggest, “Menu”)
- ii. A list of items that will be included in your menu presentation
- Highest in Calories
- Highest in Fat
- Highest in Cholesterol
- Healthiest
- Favorite Fast Food
- iii. Each item on the list will be hyperlinked to its corresponding
(matching) page.
C. Create a slide for each item on your menu. You must include
a minimum of 3 items on your menu. Each slide must include:
- i. Title
- ii. A bulleted list, including:
- Serving Size (g)
- Calories
- Fat (g)
- Cholesterol (mg)
- Protein (g)
- iii. Related image
- iv. Hyperlink back to the menu slide
