Discovery

Authentic learning is a journey into the unknown. This journey of discovery is an engaging and meaningful process that requires challenge, commitment, and support. By approaching learning as an active process of discovery and exploration, teachers are able to build upon young people's natural curiosity and help students realize the relevance of their learning. As active learners, students at The Crossroads School discover that learning is connected to adventure, service, and character development.

At The Crossroads School asking good questions and searching for difficult answers is often more important than getting the answer right the first time. Our teaching teams design integrated units that require students to struggle with meaningful questions and real-world problems related to the subjects they are studying. We believe that middle school students are best able to discover their abilities, values and potential when faced with challenging learning experiences that are structured to enhance discovery and the deep understanding of ideas.
